local yarn store day

Local Yarn Store (LYS) Day is an annual celebration of the unique charm, creativity, and community spirit that local yarn shops bring to the fiber world. This year, LYS Day will be held on Saturday, April 26, 20251. It’s a wonderful opportunity to support your favorite LYS, discover exclusive products, and connect with community.

Beyond the LYS Walls

While you’re shopping, don’t forget about the designers, teachers, and small producers who may not have a presence in brick-and-mortar stores. If you’re able, consider:

  • Taking an online class
  • Purchasing a pattern or yarn
  • Signing up for newsletters
  • Supporting them through platforms like Patreon

I believe that’s supporting the spirit of LYS Day too—just don’t forget to also support your local yarn store when you can!

A Note on Communication

Please be patient if you don’t receive an immediate response to social media posts or emails. We are small businesses—often one-person operations—juggling many roles. If you reach out online, keep in mind that not everyone uses every social platform regularly. Some have stepped away from certain networks for personal or professional reasons. A little kindness goes a long way.

Where to Find Me

I’ve been stepping back from social media and putting more focus on my websites. It’s a challenge to strike the right balance—social media offers connection, collaboration, and visibility, but it has downsides too. While I still check in occasionally on Instagram, Threads, and Bluesky, I may not reply immediately. Thank you for understanding!

Pattern Highlights

I want to take a moment to spotlight two crochet designs I created several years ago for Artyarns—both one-skein projects that showcase the beauty of hand-painted yarn.

  • Blue Gems Capelet (2020)
Originally designed to highlight Artyarns’ exclusive hand-painted LYS Day 2020 color, Denim Blues, this capelet remains a favorite. It works beautifully in semi-solids and adds a touch of elegance to any outfit.
  • Strataterra Shawl (2022)
This asymmetrical triangle shawl was created to show off the flow and gradient of Artyarns’ ombré line. The open stitchwork enhances the color transitions, making it both fun to crochet and beautiful to wear.

I had hoped to finish a new Strataterra sample in Artyarns’ 2025 LYS Day colorway. While I’ve made some progress, it’s not quite ready for its debut—hopefully it’s coming soon!

Adding: Shoresong is now available!

I hope you’ll support your LYS!

This is a 2025 update of a post first written in 2020.

  1. I know. Please check with your LYS to see if they’ve extended the celebration beyond one specific day. ↩︎
