Just a quick checkin with my Saturday swatch project! It’s still going strong and each week I look forward to finding something new or different to swatch. You can follow along by searching my instagram tag, #psgswatches. I’m no longer working exclusively from sample mini skeins, in a few cases I’ve used my Saturday swatch as the swatch for a larger project I’m working on.
Well, mostly. I initially swatched in a different yarn, yummy Anzula Meridian, and somehow that blend of 55% Tencel, 35% Alpaca, 10% Nylon caused me to think how perfect laceweight cotlin would be for the Alpine Frost Scarf by Amy O’Neill Houck from Interweave Crochet, Winter 2008. My plan is to wear this at a late June wedding. I’ve had this design in my library since the issue was released and I’m excited to finally have found the perfect combination of yarn & stitch pattern.
I’m participating in a test knit for Ruth Garcia-Alcantud. I didn’t make as extensive a swatch as I would like so I’m going into the knit knowing how it may lie, mostly in terms of row gauge.
This is some 100% wool in a light fingering I’ve had in my stash for the past 6 years. I’m really excited by how it’s knitting up and more excited that soon Ruth’s design will be available for you!
I’ve also become smitten with a new technique and I expect more swatching as I work more on tunisian crochet.
I’m not the only one who loves swatching (until I don’t). Don’t take my word for it. Jill Wolcott recently wrote about Gauge Swatching, Except When I Don’t. I love Jill’s approach, and her philosophy. Ruth aka Rock + Purl wrote an extensive post about how swatching is your friend.
What have you swatched lately?
