In Progress (06 May 2022)

06 May 2022

It’s been a long time since my last post that shares what I’m working on. Much has happened since last summer. Of course, lots of Life and Stuff is still happening both within my immediate circle and the greater beyond. We miss Shadow every single day. The shift of my focus from pattern writing to creating is slow. That’s ok, well mostly.

Cat toys

I keep intending to work up more cat toys, however Miss Dot senses their intent and steals them from me. As the weather improves and I can take a work basket outside, hopefully I’ll create more.

Dot spent time trying to teach her toy how to use the stairs.

I also want to work up some other types of toys. One was a complete failure in Dot’s eyes, but I’m determined to figure out how to make it something she and I would both enjoy playing with.

Swatches

There’s many swatches in progress as I work out what I’m comfortable making, how long it takes, and the price. Each month I include a photo of current and recent swatches in my newsletter, here are a few of the most recent ones. If the universe behaves, I expect May’s newsletter to go out next week.

Transposon

I haven’t completely neglected the knit and crochet designs I long ago agreed to work on. I need to rework the sample for Transposon, so it better matches the written instructions. I’m solving this by attacking the problem sideways. Earlier this week I cast on a sweater with a cotton/bamboo blend that has been in my stash for at least a decade.

Bottom: back progress with hem turned.
Yarn: LB Collection Cotton Bamboo in Magnolia
Needles: 3.5mm and 4mm

I know, it looks nothing like my design, please trust that it will provide me the opportunity to work on one detail that I want to improve before I release the pattern. In any case, I’ll eventually have a sweater from the process! Yes, I’m working the front and back semi-simultaneously. We’ll see which I finish first, at the moment the back is in the lead.

Future In Progress Posts?

Please let me know (either in the comments or through the contact form) if you like these in progress posts and if you’d like more of them. Would you be interested into photos/scans of my notebook as well? In general, I’m reevaluating what community connection and communication means for me, especially since I’ve stepped back from social media. As I shift my business focus, I also need to rethink what this blog section of my site means to me and how I want to use it.
